Are long-haired guinea pigs long-haired at birth?

Or does the their hair slowly grow longer? My female, Roo, just gave birth to three healthy guinea pig babies. She is long-haired, but she got pregnant at the pet store and I took her home without knowing this, so I don't know what the father looks like. All of the babies are short-haired right now, but could that change?
