Best Hotel Near Times Square in NYC?

Planning a trip for four 17/18 year olds to NYC from Dec. 18-20. Have been to NYC before but never stayed near Times Square. Could someone please help point me towards some good hotels that are close to Times Square (Midtown Manhattan)??? And that are atleast somewhat well priced and in a relatively safe area. I've been looking on Travelocity and all so I know a majority of the hotels. Just wondering which ones are the best. Thank you!!
